Harbor 2.8 - The KubeCon+CloudNativeCon Release

As this week in Amsterdam will be packed of breaking news, nice surprises, meetings, new ideas etc… why not to kick off the week properly right?!

Introducing Harbor 2.8 - The KubeCon release!

This release comes with several new features and improvements, including support for the OCI Distribution Specification v1.1.0, which provides enhanced support for multi-architecture images and image manifests. Another major addition is reworked Webhooks and added support for sending payloads with CloudEvents format, which provides a standardised way of sending event notifications across different services. The 2.8 release also includes an improved Jobservice Dashboard, providing more comprehensive and detailed information about long running jobs. Also we have introduces some significant changes as the removal of ChartMuseum and starting deprecation process of Notary from 2.8 release.

New features

OCI Distribution Spec v1.1.0-rc1 Support

The latest Harbor release now supports the OCI Distribution Spec v1.1.0-rc1. This is a significant upgrade that allows users to store and distribute OCI and Docker images. With this feature, users can manage their images more effectively and efficiently.

Webhook Payloads with CloudEvents Format Support

Harbor now supports sending webhook payloads with CloudEvents format. This functionality has undergone significant improvements, aimed at delivering enhanced management and debugging capabilities. With the addition of CloudEvents format support, users can easily integrate with other systems and services.

JobService Dashboard Phase 2

Jobservice Dashboard now provides real-time visibility into the progress and status of running jobs. The latest update allows users to display logs for running tasks and clean up expired running executions automatically. This feature provides users with better job management capabilities. Displaying logs for running tasks, which provides users with real-time visibility into the progress and status of their running jobs. Cleanup expired running executions, which helps users to automatically cleaning unfinished or expired executions.

Skip Update Pull Time for Scanner

Allows users to skip the automatic update on pull time that performed by a scanner during a scan task this feature provides users with more flexibility and control over the scanning process and usage of retention policies.

Identity Provider as the Primary Auth Method

The latest Harbor release now allows the Identity Provider to be the primary auth method in Harbor. This feature provides users with better authentication and authorization capabilities.

Removal of ChartMuseum

Starting with version v2.8.0, Harbor no longer includes ChartMuseum in either the user interface or the backend, Harbor can serve OCI Helm Charts!

Deprecation of Notary

Starting in Harbor 2.6 was decided to deprecate Notary you can check this discussion. Workflows and pipelines needs to be migrated to cosign as of Harbor 2.5
